Simple, easy and crispy sweet made from Puffed rice or also known as Murmura and Jaggery syrup. It is one of the favourite snack for kids. This gluten free recipe is very easy to prepare, moreover it’s sugar free.
Firstly, Puffed rice is a type of puffed grain from the Indian subcontinent, made from rice, commonly used in breakfast cereal or snack foods, and served as a popular street food in India.
Puffed Rice is very light, and low on calories. So this is one of the healthiest snacks you can have without thinking it twice.
It is an ideal sweet for winter, you can make this for any occasion or just as a snack for kids. Traditionally made on festive occasions of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. Furthermore, I personally recommend using of jaggery in this recipe instead of sugar. Jaggery syrup consistency is more important for preparing the Murmura Laddu.

Moreover, Murmura or puffed rice laddu is an easy snacks you can prepare with very minimum ingredients. But make sure you use the fresh and crisp puffed rice for preparing these laddu’s.
In Tamil Nadu, Pori Urundai (Murmura Laddu) is prepared as a offering in the festival known as ‘Karthikai deepam‘. In many places Murmura Ladoo is prepared on the occasion of ‘Makar Sankranti‘ festival.

Murmura Laddu | Puffed Rice Ladoo | Pori Urundai Recipe
Ingredients
- 1.5 cup Jaggery
- 6 cup Murmura
- 1 tsp Cardamom Powder
- 1/2 tsp Ghee for greasing hand
Instructions
- Take 1.5 cup of jaggery in a high heat pan.
- Melt the jaggery on a low flame.
- Keep stirring continuously.
- Once the jaggery gets melted, add 1 tsp of Cardamom powder and mix well.
- Keep stirring until the jaggery turn frothy.
- Then turn off the heat.
- Add 6 cups of Murmura or Puffed rice.
- Mix it gently until all the murmura gets coated.
- Once it is well coated in Jaggery, allow it to cool for 2 minutes.
- Grease the hand with ghee.
- Take a portion of Pufferd rice and jaggery mixture when it is warm.
- Squeeze and give round shape and make laddu's.
- Murmura Laddu is ready to serve.
- Store in an airtight container, it will stay fresh for more than a week.

Puffed rice having low sodium content, actively helps in normalising the blood pressure levels and keeps it under check.
