What is Tahini Sauce or Tahini paste?
Tahini Paste / Tahini Sauce is a condiment used in Middle East and Mediterranean cooking. Moreover, it is one of the important ingredient while preparing Hummus, as a salad dressing and in many other dishes as well.
Tahini is overpriced at the grocery stores, even you can prepare it freshly at home. It requires only two ingredients: Sesame seeds and oil (preferably virgin olive oil). Firstly you need to roast the sesame seeds on low heat until they start popping. Make sure you don’t burn them.
Tahini, the creamy, nutty paste made from toasted sesame seeds, is a versatile and essential ingredient in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. Whether it’s drizzled over falafel, blended into hummus, or used as a sauce for grilled vegetables, tahini adds a delightful depth of flavor and richness to countless dishes. While store-bought tahini is readily available, there’s something incredibly satisfying about making your own at home.
I prepared this tahini as an ingredient to prepare Hummus. If you are making Tahini Sauce as a dip, then consider adding salt, lemon, cumin powder, and some garlic for the flavour. Furthermore, it is a smooth, nutty flavoured paste used as a condiment or ingredient in many Middle East dishes.

Easy Tahini Sauce | How to make Tahini Paste at home
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Sesame seeds
- 2 TBSP Virgin Olive Oil
- Salt (Optional)
Instructions
- Take 1/4 cup of White sesame seeds.
- Roast it on a low flame.
- Make sure you keep stirring. Otherwise it turns brown.
- Once the Sesame seeds starts popping, switch off the flame.
- Allow it to cool.
- Once it is cooled, transfer to the blender.
- Blend it without adding water.
- After blending, it forms a moist mixture.
- Add 2 TBSP of Virgin Olive oil. You can also add salt to taste.
- Blend again to prepare smooth paste.
- Tahini sauce or Tahini paste is ready.
- You can store in a refrigerator.

HOW TO MAKE TAHINI SAUCE AT HOME WITH STEP BY STEP PHOTOS:

TIPS & VARIATION:
- Firstly, you can add salt to taste. I have skipped adding salt, as I have used this tahini paste for preparing hummus.
- Tahini sauce can be prepared very easily and stored in the refrigerator.
- Moreover, make sure you don’t burn the sesame seeds while roasting. Let the flame be low.
- You can also add Garlic, lemon etc for the flavour. Here I have shown the basic method of preparing Tahini.
