Mangalore Buns | Banana Poori | Banana Buns recipe

It is a popular breakfast or tea time snacks in the Udupi - Mangalore region of Karnataka, India.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 Banana medium sized
  • 2.5 cup All purpose flour (Maida)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin
  • 1/4 cup Curd
  • 1/2 tsp Ghee
  • 1/2 cup All purpose flour or Wheat flour for dusting
  • Oil to deep fry

Instructions
 

  • Remove the peels of Banana and mash them to make a puree. Or else you can make banana puree using mixi jar.
  • Add 2 TBSP sugar to mashed Banana. You can adjust the sugar based on the sweetness of the Banana.
  • Then add 1/4 tsp Salt.
  • Add 1/2 tsp Cumin or Jeera to it.
  • Also add 1/4 cup of curd.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Add 2.5 cups of all purpose flour or maida to the banana mixture.
  • Knead them wel, add little water if required.
  • Prepare a soft dough.
  • Grease the dough with 1/2 tsp of Ghee.
  • Cover and rest the dough for 8 hours for fermentation.
  • After 8 hours, sprinkle some dry flour (maida or wheat flour).
  • Knead the dough well again for 2 minutes.
  • Take ball sized dough.
  • Dust with maida or wheat flour and roll it into slighlty thick than poori. 
  • Deep fry in a Hot oil. Gently press it on the edges to get the puffed buns. 
  • Flip it over and fry until buns get dark golden brown colour on both sides. 
  • Serve it hot with veg kurma or chutney.
