Sathoddi falls, Yellapur | Beautiful Waterfalls in Western Ghats

Sathoddi Falls is a picturesque waterfall located near Yellapur in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It is a popular tourist attraction known for its natural beauty and serene surroundings, this waterfall has water all round the year.

Sathoddi Falls is part of the Uttara Kannada’s Western Ghats region, which is renowned for its rich biodiversity also popularly known as Mini Niagara of Karnataka.

Sathoddi Falls

The waterfall is formed by the union of several streams, and it cascades down from a height of about 15 meters (49 feet) into a serene pool below. The water here is crystal clear and is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers.

To reach Sathodi Falls, you can travel to Yellapur, which is well-connected by road. From Yellapur, the waterfall is approximately 32 kilometers (20 miles) away. The route takes you through scenic landscapes and dense forests. It is advisable to hire a local guide or take assistance from the locals to navigate through the route, as it can be a bit tricky in certain sections, as you don’t get mobile signals in dense forests.
From the vehicle parking place, there is a pathway built for almost one kilometre.

Visiting Sathoddi falls after more than 20 years brings back lot of memories of childhood.


Best time to visit

November to April is the best time to visit Sathoddi falls. If you are visiting during monsoons, be careful as the roads may be slippery & dangerous.
We had visited in December, roads were quite manageable. Need to drive slowly.

How to reach

You can go by air to Hubli, which is the nearest airport to Yellapur. A direct flight for Hubli is easily available from major cities like Bangalore. From Hubli, you can hire a taxi to Sathoddi falls.
Or else you can take train from most of the cities to Hubli or Ankola. From Yellapur town Sathoddi waterfall is 25 kms away. You can hire a cab to reach Sathoddi falls.

Nearby Attractions

Kali River backwater view point and Shivapura hanging bridge are the nearest attractions when you are visiting Sathoddi falls.

Kali River backwater / baraballi Kalinadi viewpoint

The Kali River, also known as the Kali Nadi, is a significant river in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, India. It originates in the Western Ghats and flows through dense forests and picturesque landscapes, eventually merging with the Arabian Sea. Along its course, the Kali River forms beautiful backwaters that are popular among tourists.

The Kali River backwaters offer a tranquil and scenic experience for visitors. The backwaters are characterized by calm, slow-moving water surrounded by lush greenery and dense forests. The serene environment makes it an ideal destination for sunset, bird watching and enjoying the natural beauty of the region. Tourists please don’t throw plastics or any garbage there.

Kali river Hanging Bridge, Shivapur

This Bridge is constructed on the backwaters of Kodasalli Reservoir, which is formed by great River Kali. Perfect place for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

Please note that it’s always a good idea to check the current conditions and accessibility of the waterfall before planning your visit, as factors like rainfall and seasonal variations can affect the water flow and overall experience. It is advisable to avoid visiting this place during peak monsoon season. It is home to leeches which are very active in the rainy season.
