Theppakadu Elephant Camp in Mudumalai National Park is quickly becoming a favoured tourist spot, all thanks to the Academy Award winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’. Here’s all that you need to know about planning a trip to this natural beauty.

The Elephant Whisperers, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, recently made history by winning the Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards — giving India its first Academy Award win for a movie.

A Glimpse into Mudumalai Elephant Camp:

Mudumalai Elephant Camp, situated on the northwestern edge of the Mudumalai National Park, is renowned for its conservation efforts and the close interaction it provides visitors with these gentle giants. The camp was established with the aim of rehabilitating and caring for captive elephants, allowing them to thrive in an environment that closely resembles their natural habitat.

The Elephant Experience:

One of the most captivating aspects of Mudumalai Elephant Camp is the chance to engage with elephants up close, while respecting their space and well-being. Visitors can witness the daily activities of the elephants, from feeding and bathing to their interactions with mahouts (elephant caretakers).

Exploring the Wilderness:

Mudumalai Elephant Camp isn’t just about elephants – it’s also a gateway to the enchanting wilderness of the Mudumalai National Park. The park, part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, deer, wild boar and a plethora of bird species.
