Curry Leaves Chutney Powder | Karuveppilai Podi | Karivepaku Podi recipe – with step by step photos, description and video of the recipe is here. It is an ideal way to eat curry leaves as it is good for health and many of us avoid eating of curry leaves in most of the dishes. Generally, this curry leaf powder can be used as a side dish to rice, roti, idli, dosa etc along with Ghee or oil.
When you are preparing the chutney powder, variation in each ingredient makes difference. Each region will have slight variation in the way of preparation. You can also add dry coconut and garlic to the curry leaves chutney powder for more rich flavour.
Furthermore, this curry leaf powder can be used in the preparation of Curry leaves rice when you don’t have the fresh curry leaves. Previously I have posted a recipe of Chutney powder(Idli Podi) in which I have used dry coconut in that. It can be served as side dish to roti, rice etc along with ghee or coconut oil.

Moreover, curry leaves powder can be stored in a glass bottle for more than two months and use it whenever required. But make sure you roast the ingredients well. So there is no need of refrigeration.
Curry leaves (Murraya koenigii) also known as Sweet Neem Leaves are extensively used in India for culinary and medicinal purposes. They are small green leaves with a unique flavour and aroma. They are widely used as a seasoning in South Indian dishes like sambar, rasam, chutney etc. Across India, it is widely used in dals to make ‘tadka’ to add flavor and aroma to the dish.
Interesting fact is that essential oils of curry leaves plant are used in the industry of perfumes.

Curry Leaves Chutney Powder | Karuveppilai Podi
Ingredients
- 1.5 cup Curry Leaves
- 2 TBSP Chana Dal
- 1.5 TBSP Coriander Seeds
- 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 2-3 Red chillies
- Cinnamon small piece
- 2 Cloves
- 2 TBSP Roasted Chana dal
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Firstly, Wash the curry leaves and dry them beforehand.
- Separate the leaves from the stem. I have taken around 1.5 cup of Curry leaves.
- In a Pan, add 2 TBSP of Chana Dal.
- Then add 1.5 TBSP of Coriander seeds.
- Next add 2 tsp of Cumin (Jeera) to it and roast for 2 minutes.
- Add 2-3 red chillies, adjust the spice level as per your taste.
- Then add small piece of cinnamon and 2 cloves.
- Add 2 TBSP roasted channa dal.
- Dry roast until it turns aromatic.
- Add 1/2 tsp of Black pepper powder (you can also use 7-8 whole black pepper) and switch off the flame.
- Allow it to cool.
- In a pan, dry roast the curry leaves.
- Roast until they get crispy and allow it to cool.
- Transfer the roasted curry leaves and the roasted spices to the blending jar.
- Add little salt to taste.
- Blend it to a smooth powder.
- Curry leaves chutney powder is ready to serve.

TIPS & VARIATION:
- I have dry roasted ingredients(spices), if you want add a little oil and roast them.
- Make sure you wash the Curry leaves well and dry them beforehand.
- Dry roast curry leaves till they turn crisp else the shelf life will decrease due to the moisture.
- You can add a little of dry mango powder.
