Green Peas Sundal | Batani Sundal | Batani Usli

Green Peas Sundal is a popular dish prepared during nine days of Navaratri or Ganesh Chaturthi Festival.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Green Peas (dried)
  • 2 cup Water
  • 1 pinch Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon Juice
  • 2 TBSP Grated Coconut

For Tempering

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 5-6 Curry Leaves

Instructions
 

  • Soak the Green peas overnight or for minimum of 8 hours. 
  • Drain the water. 
  • Add the soaked green peas in a vessel to pressure cook. 
  • Add 2 cup of water. 
  • Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. (Don't overcook)
  • Drain the water after cooking. 
  • For tempering, Take 1 tsp of oil and once oil is heated add mustard seeds, cumin, green chilli, red chilli, also curry leaves. 
  • When mustards starts spluttering, Add cooked green peas. 
  • Mix it well. Keep the flame low. 
  • Add pinch of turmeric, that gives a nice colour too.  
  • Also add salt to taste. 
  • Mix well. Cover and cook for 2 minutes on a low flame. 
  • Add some lemon juice. (You can also add finely chopped raw mango as well, instead of lemon juice)
  • Add 2 TBSP of freshly grated coconut. 
  • Mix everything well. And the delicious Green Peas Sundal | Batani Usli is ready.

HOW TO MAKE GREEN PEAS SUNDAL | BATANI USLI RECIPE WITH STEP BY STEP PHOTOS :
