Story of Harmones that rule you women…
Khushi and Bhumika were childhood friends, and their friendship continued even after marriage. They used to meet in the evening for a walk. Bhumika told to Khushi about her home pregnancy test which happened to be positive, also she confirmed it in the hospital. She wanted some advice from Khushi about pregnancy, pregnancy hormones how it affects, as she was senior in pregnancy.
Khushi congratulated her first and then she started explaining about the hormones which rule during pregnancy…and how it affects as well as how it is useful to grow an entire tiny human inside your tummy in just nine months of time…doesn’t it great…? Let’s look what all Khushi explained to Bhumika…
Pregnancy hormones can make you to go through a roller coaster ride, whole lot of emotions, and many changes in your body.
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is one of those hormone which helps you to find out that you are pregnant from home pregnancy test, it can be called as announcer of pregnancy… 🙂 This hormone level shoot up when you get pregnant, doubling its level every two days for the first 10 weeks…that’s a huge change Bhumika. This hormones work doesn’t end here. hCG’s work is to let know the rest of the body about the tiny human being is growing inside the tummy and sends messages to the ovaries to stop maturing eggs. Also triggers the other two pregnancy hormones – estrogen and progesterone.
Estrogen is a group of hormones to do bunch of things relevant to reproduction, major part is produced by the ovaries. During pregnancy it helps to the growing fetus to develop many of its organs, helps to grow placenta, gets the breast tissue ready to lactate and also regulates the rest of the pregnancy hormones.
Progesterone can be called as relaxed hormone as it helps in keeping your uterus muscles relaxed and also helps your immune system get used to the external DNA in the system (known as fetus).
Oxytocin, Prolactin and Relaxin are other important pregnancy hormones Khushi continued… many women believed that Oxytocin is the hormone which triggers labor (Pitocin is the drug which usually given to induce labor, which is the synthetic form of Oxytocin). Uterus becomes sensitive and responsive to Oxytocin as you progress towards end of pregnancy. Oxytocin hormone also helps in stretching the cervix and triggering the breasts to produce milk.
As it is understood from name itself Prolactin is the hormone which prepares breast tissues for lactation, and release of milk. Prolactin increase ten to twenty times during pregnancy, which has the tranquilizing effect.
Relaxin is believed to be responsible for loosening up the ligaments that hold pelvic bones together and for relaxing the uterine muscle, in turn it is helping you to deliver the baby through birth canal. During pregnancy women have ten times the normal amount of this pregnancy hormone in their bodies… Said Khushi with a bright smile on her face, 🙂 till then it was dark, so they decided to talk about the pregnancy hormone-how it affected on mood and body on next day. Both bid bye to each other for that day…
Let’s see what Khushi tells to Bhumika about Pregnancy hormones affects mood and body?
After knowing what are the hormones helped during pregnancy Bhumika asked Khushi… How pregnancy hormones affects mood and on body…?
Khushi continued… Being flooded with hormone levels can affect your neurotransmitters in the brain which regulates your mood. Depression, anxiety are common during pregnancy, or the intensity of emotion gets more.
These pregnancy hormones can affect your body in many ways…Let me tell you that Bhumika, said Khushi with full interest.
Nausea or morning sickness is one thing usually seen in many pregnant women. Although it is called as morning sickness, it can happen anytime of the day which is caused by hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin). Morning sickness fades during the beginning of second trimester. For some people it can continue throughout the pregnancy.
Feeling like need to pee all the time…? It’s because of the hCG hormone which increases the blood flow to your pelvic area.
Your sense of smell also becomes very strong, due to the raised estrogen level. You may start hating the food or smell, once you liked the most…!
Bhumika asked Khushi, then why am I feeling really tired?
It’s because of the progesterone hormone effect, it makes you soporific. It is a fancy word for something that makes you super sleepy anytime of the day. Might be in the meeting room too… 🙁 you may feel like you have taken the sleeping pills. Your fatigue level raises as progesterone hormone level increases, Khushi concluded.
These pregnancy hormones are so powerful that make you to undergo super weird things, while this may seem like a lot to do for the purpose of having a baby. But just think, you are growing a tiny human being inside your tummy, in just nine months of time. Hats off to you Women…!
Hope it was helpful for you, stay tuned for more…!
